A sociology PhD went "undercover" in Zhongguancun's "Brotherhood of Riders," immersing himself in the real labor processes of food delivery workers. This ethnographic study investigates how labor order is constructed within the platform economy-specifically, how capital controls and manages labor-with the aim of identifying pathways to address systemic challenges faced by workers.

What kind of order and rules guide over ten million delivery riders as they rush across cities in an organized manner every day? Amid growing concerns about riders' predicaments, do we truly understand their interactions and negotiations with algorithms? In the era of the platform economy, how have the methods and means of labor control by capital transformed?

Drawing on participatory observation and labor sociology theory, the author reveals: despite technological advancements, capital's control over labor has intensified rather than weakened. The platform system and its underlying "digital control" have replaced human management as the cornerstone of labor order in the platform economy.
