Population genomics is a fast emerging discipline of genomics, which has revolutionized the fields of population, evolutionnary, ecological and conservation genetics, including identification of genes and genetic variants causing or associated with many disease conditions in plants and humans. It employs large-scale or genome-wide genetic information to address various fundamental and applied aspects in biology, and provides a comprehensive genome-wide perspective and new insights that were not possible before. Population genomics research continues to provide new insights, such as: the origin and evolution of species, causes and levels of genome-wide genetic variation and population structure, adaptive evolution, evolutionary processes (such as natural selection) shaping up species and populations adaptation (including humans), identification of genes underlying complex ecological and economically important traits and disease and insect resistance, genes and genetic variants causing or associated with many disease conditions in humans, organisms ability to survive, reproduce and evolve in natural environment and changed climate and environmental conditions, personal medicine, genetic variants associated with drug response, forensics, delineating conservation genetic units, impacts of genetic resource management practices, and conservation and sustainable management of genetic resources. Population Genomics, Vol. 1 discusses the concepts, approaches and strategies of population genomics in addressing the above fundamental and applied crucial aspects. This work addresses various population genomics aspects in a variety of organisms from microorganisms to humans and forest trees. This book fills a vacuum in the field and is expected to become a primary reference in Population Genomics world-wide. .
