Moment Before

Friday, 4:47 p.m. A bank transfers 25 million euros. The payment was approved, two authorized signatories had signed, every system had checked and logged it. But three minutes earlier, the decisive authority had been revoked. On Monday the board sits in front of a flawless timeline, and none of the systems ever asked whether the payment was still allowed at that moment. The Moment Before is about the instant between a decision and its effect. Using one continuous model case and documented real cases such as Bangladesh Bank, Knight Capital and Wirecard, Rami Cherri shows why permissions, logs and checks so often fail to prevent major damage, and why this gap grows wider as AI systems act faster than people can intervene. As an answer, the book describes Machine Law: an architecture that checks, before every protected action, whether a valid execution right exists at exactly that moment. If it does not, the action does not happen, and every decision leaves a verifiable receipt instead of a mere log entry. The book shows how this works in banking, public administration, healthcare, industry and security, including ACES, a system for fitness evidence and fair personnel selection in professions where people protect others. 348 pages, 26 chapters in six parts, with an examination matrix, a glossary and a register of sources.
