The internet has become one of the most important information and communication technologies, serving as the primary and largest repository of information and a means of delivering it to those who need it. This has made it a vast repository of information, unlike other media characterized by the immediacy of their information, such as telephones, television, radio, magazines, and newspapers. Through its infrastructure and tools, it allows for the retrieval of information at speeds unmatched by books and printed references. It also allows the retrieval of all digital content, including video and audio, enabling viewing and listening to programs at times other than their broadcast. At the beginning of the internet's spread, it was said that "e;content is king,"e; indicating that the internet is its content, and that its benefit lies in this content. At that time, content was not as vast as it is today. This content is what made it commonplace to see people engrossed in communication devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets, exchanging, sending, receiving, or interacting with content. In recent years, there has been a continuous decline in readership of Egyptian newspapers and their content, both print and online. This is evident in the plummeting circulation figures for print newspapers and the decreasing traffic to online newspapers and news websites. As a result, many media outlets have refrained from disclosing their print circulation figures, while some online newspapers and news websites have resorted to using dubious traffic figures and inflated user numbers to attract advertising and funding, and to try to gain readers' trust. In reality, this sharp decline in print newspaper circulation and the number of users of news websites and online newspapers was not due to external factors outside the realm of journalism. Unfortunately, it stemmed from a decline in readership and the failure of the press and media industry to develop its content. This has led to a loss of interest in the industry's stagnant product, whose production costs are rising, and whose consumption and distribution costs are increasing simultaneously.
