Pawn Shop

WE NEVER SAY NO.For fifteen years, Carol Vasey has sat behind the counter of Gold & Loan Pawnbrokers and said yes to everything. The ventriloquist's dummy whose hair is possibly human. The cuckoo clock that only ever says "e;One"e;. The finger in the velvet-lined box. Every cursed, humming, whispering thing the town of Stoke-on-Trent can't bear to keep goes through her hands, because the policy is the policy, and the policy is the sign in the window: We Never Say No.Nobody asks what Mr. Pym is doing in the back room. Nobody has ever seen him. But the humming is getting louder, the ticket numbers don't add up, and the new lad with the camera who photographs the stock has noticed something Carol spent fifteen years not noticing: nothing ever leaves. With three weeks to Hallowe'en, a vape-shop neighbour with a stethoscope and a flask of tea, and a missing word she can't say to save her life, Carol is about to find out what the shop is building, and what it still needs.Cheesy, creepy and cheerfully British, THE PAWN SHOP is a horror-comedy about customer service, regret, and the most dangerous word in the language. Some deals should be refused.
