Key writings and sermons by Martin Luther include: Ninety-Five Theses: Luther's "e;Ninety-Five Theses,"e; posted on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg in 1517, is often considered the starting point of the Reformation. In this document, Luther critiqued the sale of indulgences and questioned certain practices of the Catholic Church. "e;Freedom of a Christian"e;: Published in 1520, this treatise focuses on the themes of faith and works. Luther argues that salvation is by faith alone and that good works are a result of faith rather than a means of earning salvation. "e;The Bondage of the Will"e;: Written in 1525, this work engages in a theological debate with Erasmus over the nature of free will and predestination. Luther defends his belief in the sovereignty of God's grace. "e;On the Jews and Their Lies"e;: This controversial treatise, written in 1543, expresses Luther's harsh views toward the Jewish community. It reflects the anti-Semitic sentiments of the time, which have been widely condemned by modern scholars. "e;A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"e;: While not a full-length writing, Luther's hymn "e;A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"e; is one of his most famous compositions. It reflects his theology of God's protection and strength in times of trial.
