Das Buch ist eine Einführung in die Physik auf dem Niveau der Sekundarstufe II. Der Stoff ist so ausgewählt, daß man mit wenig Mathematik in wesentliche Bereiche der Physik eindringen kann. Einfache Formeln und Methoden der Differential- und Integralrechnung werden erklärt und benutzt. Sogenannte Randgebiete (Astronomie, Physikgeschichte) sind bewusst einbezogen, oft in Form von Exkursen. Heimversuche und Aufgaben, auch einfache Computerprogramme sollen zum Selbermachen anregen. Die Darstellung orientiert sich am Schulstoff, wobei der Stil nicht ganz so streng ist und die Beispiele mitunter etwas unorthodox sind. Der Autor versteht es hervorragend, das Augenmerk auf kritische Punkte zu lenken, die im Unterricht manchmal etwas untergehen.
