YOU CAN LOSE ALMOST EVERYTHING WITHOUT LOSING WHO YOU ARE.
Born in East Belfast and raised on the Shankill Road, Kenny Smyth grew up knowing hardship long before he understood what it meant. He left school at sixteen, entered the working world and learned early that if he wanted something, he would have to work for it.
From £27.30 a week, Kenny built businesses, created employment, raised a family and achieved a level of success the boy from Belfast could never have imagined.
Then it all began to unravel.
The global financial crisis brought the loss of businesses, money, security and the future Kenny thought he had built. For a man who had spent his life building, suddenly having to start again was a lesson in humility, resilience and what really matters.
With his family beside him, Kenny crossed the Atlantic and began again in Canada.
But this is not simply a story about business, failure or immigration.
It is a story about people.
A wife who stayed.
A family who carried him.
Friends who believed in him.
A grandfather who helped build the foundations of the man he became.
And a faith that, despite years of wrestling with it, kept finding its way back into his life.
Because Kenny eventually learned something that success could never teach him:
Buildings can be rebuilt. Businesses can be rebuilt.
Lives can be rebuilt. But the greatest things we build are the people we become and the people we help along the way.
Built. Broken. Rebuilt. is an honest story of hardship, ambition,
success, loss, faith and second chances.
And ultimately, it is a reminder that being broken does not have to be the end of your story.
Sometimes, it is where rebuilding begins.
