Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Study Guide 2026-2027 is an independent, source-mapped preparation guide for candidates studying the three component examinations that make up the Dental Assisting National Board CDA credential: General Chairside Assisting, Radiation Health and Safety, and Infection Control. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, reviewed by, or approved by DANB, the DALE Foundation, Pearson VUE, a dental school, or a regulator. It contains no live, recalled, or reconstructed examination items. Candidates should verify current eligibility, application, scheduling, identification, scoring, and jurisdiction-specific practice requirements directly with DANB and the authority where they intend to work.

The book turns the current public examination outlines into twenty-four manageable teaching groups without deleting their detailed objectives. General Chairside Assisting coverage includes evaluation and records; oral and dental anatomy; patient management; legal and privacy responsibilities; emergency readiness; four-handed dentistry; restorative, prosthetic, endodontic, and surgical assistance; and dental materials.

Radiation Health and Safety instruction addresses image anatomy and landmarks, image purpose and diagnostic acceptability, patient preparation and positioning, image acquisition, error recognition and correction, equipment care, viewing and mounting, records and privacy, radiation physics and biology, dose and units, patient and operator protection, and infection prevention during imaging. The guide emphasizes digital radiography and a repeatable approach to deciding whether an image is diagnostically useful, what caused an error, and what should be corrected before another exposure is considered.

Infection Control coverage develops a safety-first workflow across disease transmission, medical histories, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, aerosol controls, treatment-area cleaning, barriers, waterlines, instrument processing and storage, sterilizer monitoring, bloodborne-pathogen controls, hazard communication, exposure response, documentation, and training. CDC, OSHA, and other public materials reinforce the distinction between examination study and the rules and office policies that govern actual patient care.

A case-rehearsal workbook applies every teaching group to realistic dental-assisting decisions. Readers practice identifying the technical distinction, the immediate protective action, the scope boundary, the person who must be notified, and the evidence that should be recorded. Chapter retrieval plans and mnemonics support recall while explicitly marking the limits of memory aids. Two mixed practice examinations require candidates to switch among chairside, radiography, and infection-control problems. Detailed answer explanations analyze the best response and the weaknesses in plausible alternatives rather than merely supplying an answer letter.

The exam quick reference consolidates high-value distinctions for final review. An evidence-based test-preparation section explains retrieval practice, spacing, interleaving, realistic decision rehearsal, sleep, and exam-day function. Study schedules, a glossary, references, and an index support planned study and rapid lookup. The source map keeps the relationship between instruction and public objectives visible.

Use the guide actively: read one objective group, close the book and reconstruct its decision rule, work the mapped cases and questions without notes, inspect every option analysis, and return to weak topics on a spaced schedule. This publication supports examination preparation only. Patient care must follow the dentist's direction, current health information, state law, manufacturer instructions, the radiation-protection program, infection-control requirements, and office policy. The artifact and its semantic evidence are independently certified before submission; credentialed-human review is not claimed.
