The Midnight-to-Three Rediscovery chapbook series showcases works by contemporary writers that were published and forgotten-stories, essays, and other writing that has fallen by the wayside, has never been collected, and now lives on the fringes of each writer's bibliography. The goal is simple: make these potentially unknown and unread pieces available once more to readers, and re-introduce them to the discussion of the writer's work.
Charles Beaumont: Driven Interests presents two lost pieces by one of the master fantasists of the 20th century, Charles Beaumont. Best known today for his work on Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone, Beaumont had a rich writing career despite his untimely death at age 37. Reprinted here for the first time since the mid-1950s, these two public domain pieces draw heavily from Beaumont's interests and experiences:
The story "Farewell to the Yo-Yos" finds three wealthy men yearning to become part of the auto racing scene by building the world's greatest race course...with 'help' from a legendary driver.
The essay "The Comics Scene" offers a fascinating snapshot of the methods employed by Dell Comics-where Beaumont worked as an editor-to produce its funny animal comics lines in the mid-fifties.
Edited and with contextual introduction and research notes by Doug Lane.
