Der aus einer jüdischen Arztfamilie stammende Mediziner Dr. Curt Bejach wurde 1922 Stadtarzt in Berlin-Kreuzberg und gehörte 1925 zu den Gründern des neuen "Gesundheitshaus am Urban", des ersten kommunalen Zentrums für präventive Medizin und Gesundheitserziehung in Berlin. Hier gab es für die Arbeiterbevölkerung des Bezirkes neben den üblichen Beratungsstellen auch eine "Lehrstätte für hygienische Volksbelehrung", eine Sexualberatungsstelle und wechselnde Ausstellungen. 1933 wurde Bejach entlassen. Er verlor sein von dem Architekten Erich Mendelsohn entworfenes Haus und musste zuletzt als Arzt in einem Zwangsarbeiterlager arbeiten. Im Januar 1944 wurde Bejach nach Theresienstadt und von dort nach Auschwitz deportiert, wo er im Herbst 1944 starb. Heute erinnert vor dem "Landhaus Dr. Bejach" in Berlin-Steinstücken ein Stolperstein an den Stadtarzt und Sozialmediziner.
