The population growth, the modernization of Petrobras' REPLAN (Paulínia Refinery), the gradual development of the region and the scarcity of resources from new springs, made it necessary to increase the water availability in the region of Campinas - SP, therefore two dams will be implemented, one in the municipality of Pedreira - SP and another in the district of Duas Pontes in the municipality of Amparo - SP. The construction of the dams will occur for several reasons, and one of them will benefit several cities through water reserves serving about 5.5 million inhabitants who are located downstream of the reservoirs. Based on these concepts, this paper aims to present all the criteria and principles related to the construction of dams. Through research and consultation, all the characteristics, direct and indirect information, case studies, positive and negative points and environmental impacts of the dams studied will be presented.
