Anders als sein Bruder Claus hat Berthold Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg keinen festen Platz im kollektiven Gedächtnis der Deutschen gefunden. Die Skizze gibt ihm Gestalt und Stimme, indem sie ihn als Völkerrechtler, Anhänger des Dichters Stefan George und Vertrauten von Claus zeigt. Der »stille« Stauffenberg lebte im Bannkreis Georges und dessen Vision eines »Neuen Reiches«. Vor allem die Kriegsverbrechen führten ihn in den aktiven Widerstand. Nach dem Scheitern des Aufstandsversuchs des 20. Juli 1944 wurde er als Mitverschwörer hingerichtet.
