Michael Warren likes his life. He sleeps in until noon, runs stock liquor deliveries throughout the heart of Chicago, and then hangs with his friends for drinks deep into the early morning hours. He has no problems beyond himself.

A phone call jars Michael awake before work one October afternoon. His estranged mother is asking about his fraternal twin sister, Michelle. She hasn't been heard from for a week. Michael hasn't seen her for nearly two months.

The call from his mom-unusual. His sister's absence-not so much. When he receives a call from Michelle later that same day, he learns she's in Kansas. Alone. Afraid. And in trouble; nothing new for her.

Michael dismisses her cries for help but is unable to ever again reach her at the same Kansas number. Stoked by a nagging worry, he reaches out to the few people close to her: her roommate, her ex, and her coworkers. But no one knows anything.
