Moving to Twisted Oak Valley was supposed to be life changing. That was what Mom told me, anyway. It changed our lives, alright. Despite the town being a tiny speck in the middle of nowhere, she thinks she's met the next love of her life.

The worst part is that her getting married means that I get Mitchell Spence. He wouldn't be so bad, but he's also the mayor's son. Because of course my mom would fall for the one person who runs the whole damn town.

Since Mom passed away ten years ago, I've been doing my best to keep my father from falling apart. At one point that meant encouraging him to run for mayor of our tiny little town. I can't tell you if he won because everyone felt sorry for him or if they thought he'd actually do a good job, but when the new elementary school teacher Ms. Prince moves to town with her son that has a chip on his shoulder, my dad is instantly drawn to her.

I need to keep my dad happy. Losing another parent isn't an option. Dealing with a jerk like Devon isn't new to me, but I'm struggling to not fall for him in the meantime.
