"Who am I speaking to?"

Sara is standing in the stairwell with rain in her hair and a split grocery bag. The door opens eight centimeters - then the chain catches. On the other side stands Erik, her partner of four years, calmly quoting Form 9.

It started with the best of intentions. Exhausted from carrying the invisible weight of their life together, Sara came home with a cream-colored binder embossed with the words The Relationship Agreement. Tabs for chores, finances, guests - and physical closeness. Forms for everything two people might want from each other, so that neither of them would ever have to feel run over. Even a hug now requires Form 14B: Application for Closeness.

Erik promised to follow the rules. And he does - to the letter.

The freezer door is left open, because closing it would undermine her independence. The power is cut off, because he refuses to manage her energy consumption without a written assignment. Her birthday guests are turned away at the door, because the visit was never registered.

Set in a Stockholm apartment over one long Swedish winter, Form 14B is a darkly funny and deeply human novel about love, resentment and the rules we write to protect ourselves - and about whether two people can find their way back once the binder is closed.
