Foreword by Stéphane Audoin-RouzeauAs the war journal of an officer on the front lines during the longest siege experienced by a capital in modern times, Vent glacial sur Sarajevo uncompromisingly attests to the ambiguity of French policies during the conflict in former Yugoslavia.Summing it up as “six months of humiliation,” Guillaume Ancel draws a harsh report on the choices made by the then government. Testifying to the military operation in which he participated, he describes the men, events, chaos and consternation experienced day after day by these powerless soldiers.A former officer of Force d’Action Rapide and graduate of Saint-Cyr, Guillaume Ancel notably took part in the UN’s 1992 intervention in Cambodia, in “Opération Turquoise” in 1994 during the Rwandan Tutsi Genocide, and in missions in the former Yugoslavia in 1995 and 1997. He left the land forces in 2005 to join the business world.
