In der Auseinandersetzung Einzelner mit Körperbehinderung manifestiert sich eine ,Zivilisation der Gesellschaft' - so lautet die Quintessenz dieser soziologischen Untersuchung zu sozialen Reaktionen Nichtbehinderter auf Körperbehinderte. Körperbehinderung wurzelt zwar in der Funktionsbeeinträchtigung, meint im soziologischen Bedeutungszusammenhang jedoch mehr: Die Behinderung wird sichtbar in den sozialen Reaktionen, die immer auch Reaktionen innerhalb einer gesellschaftlichen Normen- und Wertestruktur sind. Für diese soziale Zuschreibung einer Rolle des Abweichenden wird auf gesellschaftstheoretischer Ebene ein klärender Zugang gefunden - nicht zuletzt im Hinblick auf mögliche Auswirkungen gentechnologischer Entwicklungen.
