Glauben und Denken - passt das zusammen?

Die Existenzphilosophie von Karl Jaspers übte im 20. Jahrhundert einen großen Einfluss auf die Liberale Theologie aus. Aber auch in unserer Zeit lohnt sich für ein liberales Christentum die Auseinandersetzung mit den Gedanken dieses Philosophen. Dass Jaspers unerledigte Anfragen hinterlassen hat, geben seine folgenden Sätze zu erkennen: »Wenn die christliche Offenbarung für die einzig wahre gehalten wird; wenn die Offenbarung in der Kirche, im Dogma verkündigt wird; wenn man glaubt, dass Gott sein Volk auserwählt habe, erst als die Juden, dann als die christlichen Kirchen; [...] wenn man meint, Gott sei in Jesus Mensch geworden [...] - so muss ich sagen: all das glaube ich nicht. [...] Und trotzdem behaupte ich, dass ich ein guter Protestant bin im einzigen Sinne des Wortes.« Die Beiträge dieses Bandes beschäftigen sich in Anknüpfung und Widerspruch zur Jasper'schen Philosophie mit zentralen Fragen des christlichen Glaubens in heutiger Verantwortung. But even in our time, it is worthwhile for a liberal Christianity to engage with the ideas of this philosopher. The following sentences indicate that Jaspers has left unanswered questions: »If Christian revelation is considered the only true one; when revelation is proclaimed in the church, in dogma; if one believes that God has chosen his people, first as the Jews, then as the Christian churches; [...] if you think that God became human in Jesus [...] - I have to say: I don't believe any of that. [...] And yet I maintain that I am a good Protestant in the only sense of the word.« The contributions in this volume deal with central questions of the Christian faith in today's responsibility, in connection with and contradiction to Jasper's philosophy.
