After a few disheartening years dating driven, self-absorbed American men in New York, Krissy moves to Italy to be closer to her new English boyfriend and to research the background of her alpha-male grandfather. But soon the Brit takes a job in Bahrain...and her grandpa, the most influential man shed ever known, passes away. So maybe running away from American guys isnt the answer. Krissy moves back to her Pennsylvania hometown to mourn her grandpas death and to help care for her refined but notoriously non-maternal grandmother. There, she slowly absorbs the story of her grandparents 60-year marriage and her grandmas love lessons that made that relationship -- that romance -- so much more successful than relationships today. Grandma also spots solid husband potential for her granddaughter in a local bachelor -- a handsome cosmetic surgeon and international entrepreneur. The only thing that scares Krissy more than his perfectionism is the fact that he wont kiss her after dates (Hes as complicated as the rest of them and he doesnt like me!), but over the next year as she listens to Grandma Glo, she comes to appreciate the doctors old-fashioned approach to dating with honor. The day before hes scheduled to leave the country for a whole summer, Krissy realizes that Grandmas been right: shes in love with this old-school, quintessential American man...and this turns out to be the greatest thing in the world.
