Humans

Two people look at the same picture. Why do they notice different things?

Humans: Eye invites children ages 4-6 to look closely at the everyday experience of seeing. From a blink to a moving pupil, from a face across the room to a shape hiding in plain sight, familiar moments lead into the surprising work of the eyes and brain.

Photographs, visual examples, and shared questions introduce sixteen focus words. Children explore light, colour, edge, motion, depth, pupil, dark, and face, alongside scientific terms for grown-ups and children to investigate together.

The pages connect what an eye does with what happens inside. Questions about attention and visual perception encourage readers to compare observations, explain what caught their eye, and look again. A first impression becomes the beginning of a conversation.

Caregiver notes provide extra detail for adults, while the repeated format supports reading in short, manageable sections. Families and educators have room to follow a particular interest without rushing through every new term.

Suited to shared reading, early body science, and conversations about the senses, Eye rewards the child who keeps asking how things work. Sometimes the most interesting subject in the room is the way we see the room itself.
