정 - Jeong: Poems of Affection is a deeply personal poetry collection that explores love, longing, identity, and healing through the lens of Korean language and culture. Written entirely in Korean by Dana Sandu, a Romanian who fell in love with South Korea, its language, and its people, this book is a love letter to a country that captivated her for over 17 years.

Though she never formally studied Korean, Dana taught herself through daily exposure-books, conversation, and deep listening.

Born out of a quiet season of recovery following a concussion, the poems in this collection reflect a desire to reconnect-with language, with emotion, and with a part of the self that once felt lost. Inspired by the traditional Korean poetic form sijo, these poems carry a rhythm that honours Korean sensibility while forging a modern, personal style.

Divided into four sections-Self, Love, Life Stories, and Korean Culture-this collection blends poetic expression with visual art, including a chapter where each poem is paired with an image in the style of sihwa (詩畵). One section even experiments with traditional vertical script to evoke classical Korean aesthetics.

At its heart, this book is about "jeong"-the untranslatable emotional bond that ties people, places, and memories together. Through these poems, the author hopes to pass that warmth and connection on to you.
