Während der vorreformatorische Meistergesang mittlerweile durch zahlreiche Textausgaben relativ gut erschlossen ist - wenngleich auch hier noch manches zu tun bleibt -, sieht man sich bei Studien zum Meistergesang nach der Reformation nach wie vor weitgehend auf die zahlreichen Handschriften und alten Drucke angewiesen. Die hier vorgelegte Anthologie enthält 111 Meisterlieder in 94 Tönen von 52 namentlich bekannten Autoren, dazu einigen Anonymi des 16. bis 18. Jahrhunderts. §"Mastersongs of the 16th - 18th Century." (Text in German.) § Although the pre-Reformation poetry of the mastersingers has been relatively well reconstructed through the publication of numerous texts, the study of post-Reformation mastersongs is more or less dependent on the many hand-written texts and old prints in existence. This anthology presents 111 mastersongs in 95 tones, written by 52 known authors as well as a few unknown mastersingers.
