Men's Group is a novel about what happens when four men begin to recognize the maladaptive patterns shaping their lives and the attachment wounds driving them-challenging them to decide whether they are willing to interrupt the cycle and make meaningful, lasting changes in their relationships, or remain stuck in generational trauma and unresolved psychological injury.
Set at The Validation Center, a wellness retreat in Scottsdale, the story follows a small group of men participating in an intense pilot program unlike anything they've experienced before. This isn't traditional rehab. It is not bound by the insurance-regulated binary tracks of substance abuse or mental illness. Instead, the program focuses on something deeper: the attachment wounds that shape how people love, fight, avoid, and self-destruct.
Grounded in trauma-informed care, the program recognizes that destructive behavior often develops as a survival response to early emotional injury. Rather than shaming or labeling the men, the clinicians help them understand the origins of their defenses-and take responsibility for changing them.
Each man arrives carrying his own pain-control issues, emotional shutdown, compulsive behavior, jealousy, shame, or the fear of being truly seen. Beneath their defenses are old attachment wounds that have shaped their relationships for years. Through honest group conversations, emotional exercises, and direct accountability, they begin to see that healing doesn't come from blaming others or outrunning the past. It comes from taking responsibility.
The story is told from multiple perspectives, offering insight into both the men in treatment and the women leading the program. Jayde, the founder of The Validation Center, built the kind of program she once needed herself-one that looks beyond insurance codes and diagnostic labels to address the deeper emotional roots of destructive behavior. Determined to avoid the limitations of traditional systems, she created a space where accountability, attachment work, and whole-person healing take priority. Daria, the lead clinician, guides the men through the process while quietly confronting her own unresolved grief.
Men's Group explores difficult but real themes: how people justify betrayal, mistake intensity for love, cling to control, and avoid vulnerability out of fear of not living up to social expectations of what it means to be "man enough." It examines how unhealthy attachment wounds fuel addiction, infidelity, emotional abuse, and self-sabotage-and how accountability can open the door to change.
At its core, this novel asks a simple but powerful question:
What happens when someone stops running from their patterns and confronts their own truth?
As the program ends, each man must decide whether the work stays within the safety of the retreat-or follows him back into real life, where change is no longer required, but chosen. Ultimately, they must determine whether they will simply survive their past or use what they have learned to break generational cycles and pay it forward in their families and communities.
This is Book One of The Validation Center Series, a story about growth, honesty, and the messy, uncomfortable process of becoming better than who you've been.
