Bundesweit einmalig ist in den Jahren 2000/2001 am Bahnhof Lüneburg ein Informations- und Leitsystem für Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung entstanden. Das Konzept, das zur Reduzierung von Mobilitätsbarrieren bei der Nutzung öffentlicher Verkehrsmittel beitragen soll, konnte bei der Neugestaltung des Bahnhofes realisiert werden. Das Projekt erforderte ein interdisziplinäres sowie multiperspektivisches Vorgehen: Einerseits waren Grundfragen visueller Kommunikation und Ästhetik sowie technische Parameter hinsichtlich Verständlichkeit und Effizienz für die Gestaltung des Systems ausschlaggebend; andererseits beanspruchte die Entwicklung des Designs den Austausch mit geistig behinderten Menschen, um thematische, situative und soziale Aspekte von Mobilität sozialpädagogisch zu erfassen. Aufgrund des zirkulären Verlaufs der Leitsystementwicklung und der kommunikativen Validierung ist es gelungen, adäquate Voraussetzungen für die Nutzung zu schaffen, die auch nachhaltige Interaktions- und Lernprozesse für alle Seiten ermöglichen. Auch ein Jahrzehnt nach seiner Entstehung ist das Leitsystem immer noch aktuell und das Interesse daran ungebrochen groß. Grund genug, ein Resümee zu ziehen und das Konzept sowie die Forschungsbefunde in Buchform zugänglich zu machen.
