My Pocket

The Pocket is a tender story about the small things we carry, the memories we keep, and the love that quietly protects us as we grow.

When Lucy is little, she begins handing Mom the treasures she finds along the way: a stone with a white line through it, a button, a pinecone, a feather, and all the tiny things that feel too important to lose.

Mom keeps them safe.

Soon, those little treasures find a home in a clear glass vase, where Lucy and Mom can see the years collecting inside it.

As Lucy grows from a little girl into a young woman, the things she gives Mom change. School memories, a house keychain, a graduation tassel, and other pieces of her life join the collection. Eventually Lucy leaves their mountain home and begins a life of her own.

But growing up changes the way Lucy understands those old memories.

Years later, she realizes that Mom was never only keeping the little things safe. She had been keeping Lucy safe, too.

Before leaving after a visit home, Lucy slips a handwritten thank-you note into Mom's coat pocket. In it, she thanks her for saving the things she was afraid to lose and for being the safe place she could always come back to.

Mom adds the note to the vase, alongside the years they have shared.
