The medical community is a network of physicians,nurses, technologists, patients, insurancecompanies, and administrators who interact with eachother to provide patient care. Within this vastnetwork is the vascular laboratory. Using actornetwork theory described by Stanley Milgram, BrunoLatour, and Albert-László Barabási I am able toidentify different factors called actors that play apivotal role in the survival of a vascular laboratory(or any other diagnostic lab) in today's medicalcommunity. In the historical perspective of thevascular lab network, technology has blurredthe separation of gender roles between the typicalphysician (masculine) and nurse (feminine).Furthermore, other, less recognized interactions,such as trust and confidence between physician andtechnologist play a part in the patientcare network on a micro and macro level.
