Aus historischer und normalismustheoretischer Perspektive untersucht dieser Band den behindertenpädagogischen Spezialdiskurs des "Normalen". Die Autorin zeigt, dass die für die Behindertenpädagogik konstituiven Kategorien des "Normalen und des "Anormalen" sich paradoxerweise wissenschaftstheoretischen Zugangsweisen entziehen, die "Normalität" historisch spezifisch erklären und diese gleichzeitig in einen dynamischen Bezug zu "Anormalität" setzen. Unabdingbar ist, wenn der disziplinäre Fokus auf zu erziehende und zu bildende Subjekte nicht von scheinbar natürlichen Dichotomien getrübt werden soll, dass "Normalität" und ebenso "Behinderung" als sozialkulturell hergestellte Kategorien wahrgenommen werden. Insofern wäre es angebracht, den Themenkomplex systematisch in behindertenpädagogische beziehungsweise erziehungswissenschaftliche Kontexte zu integrieren.
