Ensign Sofi Martinez of the Endeavor has only vague memories of the planet she was born on. Forced into space after Earth's slow but inevitable destruction, the human race has traveled aimlessly through the galaxy, searching for a habitable planet to call home. The captain and crew of the Endeavor believe they have found it on Antuu: a heavily forested planet that is Earth-like in all the ways that matter-not purely in the smells of distant rain and fresh soil, or the feeling of gentle mist alighting on the skin that trigger something deep in Sofi's soul the moment her feet touch grass for the first time in decades.

But Antuu is already inhabited-and the Antuusians are well-known for having a few tricks up their sleeves. When Sofi is confronted with, not a stranger from a new planet, but a dearly familiar face from her past, she finds herself torn between following orders and following her heart. And as history prepares to repeat itself yet again, it is Sofi's allegiance that will ultimately dictate the future of the human race.
