الكتابة بحث مستمر عن الأجوبة. باقة أسئلة تفوح بعبق الالتباسات الجميلة، تلك التي تضفي على كلّ سطح أعماقًا. الكتابة فعل تطهّر، أو فعل انتقام للذاكرة. مهما كانت، فهي صرخة.بطل فونوغراف يتابع رحلة مؤلمة في الذاكرة بدأها في لن أغادر منزلي. بجرعة بوح عالية، ينكث جراح الفقد والانتزاع والتيه.من كان ذلك الوالد الذي أهمله؟ تلك الأم التي استأجرت له رصيفًا في كلّ ميناء؟ تلك الجدّة التي لم يعرف غير حضنها حضنًا؟ تلك الهويّة المنسالة التي لم تقترن بأرض واحدة؟ هنا بيروت المستعصية. هنا بغداد النازفة. هنا الغرب البارد. هنا المطارات... أوّلًا وأخيرًا...الكتابة بحث مستمر عن الأجوبة. وهذا كتاب لا يبدأ بأولى صفحاته ولا ينتهي بآخر واحدة منها. هو بعض حبر تدفّق من نهر وجع طويل لا يزال يبحث عن مصبّ.

Who was that father who disregarded him? That mother who secured him a berth in every harbor? That grandmother whose embrace was the only one he ever knew? That elusive identity, unmoored from any single land? On one side is defiant Beirut, on another is weeping Baghdad, then there's the cold West. And here lie the airports... First and foremost... Writing remains an incessant quest for answers. This book doesn't commence on its first page nor conclude on its last; it's a little bit of ink flowing from a long river of pain, still seeking an outlet.
