The piano is a favourite instrument of mine. It offers enormous scope in its range and versatility, but it is a challenge, nonetheless, to write a piano concerto.

To some, a concerto is a piece for a virtuoso soloist, accompanied by an orchestra. To others, like myself, the soloist and orchestra are equal partners in a conversation, creating the work together.

There is here, I hope, sufficient scope for the soloist to show his artistry and skill. Yet the work is intended to be heard as a whole, a varied mingling of themes and styles, complementing each other in a unified and harmonious creation, which is entertaining and memorable.

Revd Christopher Huggett studied Theology at the University of Hull. Having trained as a teacher, he taught Religious Education, History and Latin in both state and private schools, before attending Lincoln Theological College, where he trained for the Anglican priesthood. After almost thirty years with the Church of England, working in a variety of city, town and village parishes across the north of England and specialising in lay training and tourist ministry, he retired in 2010 and now lives in West Yorkshire with his wife, Alexandra. His hobbies are writing theology, fiction and classical music.

Christopher has been composing for over forty years, but his music is constantly developing as he explores new ideas and techniques. Inspired by such traditional composers as Mozart, Chopin and Bach, his music nevertheless has a modern flavour and his style is distinctive and unique. Often exuberant, sometimes peaceful, his works are full of movement and overflowing with memorable melodies offering a challenging and exciting experience both for performers and audience.

He has published many works of theology, fiction and music, which are available through Amazon or any good bookshop.
