What is occupational toxicology?

Occupational toxicology is the science that studies the effects of toxins on workers, the public, and the environment caused by substances and processes used in the workplace. It is a branch of toxicology that focuses on the assessment of chemical hazards in the workplace. Occupational toxicologists are responsible for evaluating the toxicity of workplace chemicals, identifying the effects of these chemicals on workers and the public, and recommending measures to reduce the impact of these chemicals.

History of occupational toxicology

The history of occupational toxicology dates back to ancient times. The first documented case of occupational poisoning was a case of lead poisoning in Roman workers who made lead pipes. In the 16th century, Paracelsus, a Swiss physician and alchemist, was the first to propose the idea that the dose makes the poison. This concept is still used in occupational toxicology today.
