Quaternion

"Quaternions... though beautifully ingenious, have been an unmixed evil to those who have touched them in any way..."
- Lord Kelvin

Dare to touch the unmixed evil of reality itself with Quaternion, a mind-bending collection of four novellas by Spyder Rex. Weaving together elements of philosophical inquiry, cosmic horror, surrealism, and raw human drama, this quartet of tales explores the shifting boundaries of perception, sanity, and existence.

In The Web Iridescent, reality unravels for a man adrift in a world transformed by his own hunger and fear. As lakes become serpent's eyes and mountains turn to tongues, one encounters philosophical gods, finds zippers on foreheads, and grapples with the terrifying concept that "humans are frozen gods." This meta-narrative dives headfirst into the nature of awareness, the universe as a "mothersphere," and the unsettling art of self-surgery.

The Zombie as Archetype plunges into a post-apocalyptic landscape where the walking dead are not merely monsters, but disturbing reflections of humanity's deepest fears and desires. Trapped in a world that "changed not by becoming different, but by being replaced with another," a lone survivor navigates decaying cities, battles both the reanimated and the depraved living, and confronts the unsettling truth that "God awoke from a long sleep and looked around... and then began to be afraid."

Fantomwize is a dizzying descent into pure metaphysics, where gods smoke "existential fungus" from serpent pipes, and reality is a "causative epiphenomenon." Explore the concept of "lightfall" and a universe that is perpetually "falling," all while grappling with an elusive God who "hides" and a pervasive "haunting" that defines existence. Spyder Rex pushes the limits of language and meaning, delivering an abstract yet visceral exploration of consciousness and cosmic digestion.

Finally, Baby Teeth offers a poignant, tragic coming-of-age story set against a backdrop of childhood hells. Two innocent souls find solace and first love amidst domestic abuse and a world perceived through the warped lens of trauma. But as they seek refuge in a mysterious cave, the narrative itself becomes a living entity, blurring the lines between memory, fiction, and the raw power of a story that creates its own past.

Quaternion is a challenging, audacious work for readers who crave intellectual depth alongside unflinching, visceral exploration. Spyder Rex meticulously dismantles conventional reality, leaving you haunted by its fragmented beauty long after the final page.
