Dieser ging in erster Linie auf das Konto der so genannten Kleinsegelei, also dem Segeln auf kleinen Fahrzeugen, oftmals Jollen oder Jollenkreuzer. Wer immer Talent und Lust verspürte, nahm es mit diesem bis dahin für die breite Masse gänzlich unerreichbaren Sport auf.§Der Selbstbau von Booten boomte, doch echte Segelanleitungen fehlten anfangs noch. Dieser Lücke nahm sich der bekannte Autor und Regattasegler Harry Meville mit diesem Buch an, das große Verbreitung erfuhr und nach dem ganze Generationen das Segeln lernten.§Auch heute noch ist das Buch lehrreich, vermittelt es doch spezielle Kenntnisse über das Segeln auf traditionell geriggten Seglern, die so heute nicht mehr gelehrt werden.
