You have written Terraform. You have also, at some point, stared at a plan that wanted to destroy something it should not, waited on a state lock nobody could find, or discovered that the console and the code had drifted apart weeks ago. Terraform That Survives Production is about closing that gap for good: making every infrastructure change planned, reviewed, reproducible and reversible, whether you are one engineer or a platform team supporting dozens.
The book treats Terraform as an engineering discipline rather than a syntax to memorise. You will learn how the lifecycle really works, why state is the most important file you own, how providers and the dependency graph decide what runs when, and how to design modules and repositories that stay readable a year later. You will then move into the operational half of the job: reading plans like an auditor, detecting and remediating drift, handling secrets without leaking them into state, enforcing policy before apply, and running the same patterns on both AWS and Azure.
Along the way you will build:
Every chapter includes runnable HCL, worked examples with expected output, pitfalls drawn from real incidents (with the names changed), and exercises with clear success criteria. Version-specific behaviour is described as of 2026 and always points you to the official documentation.
This book is for cloud engineers, DevOps and platform engineers, SREs and architects who already know at least one cloud provider and want to run Terraform in a way that would satisfy an auditor, a security reviewer and the colleague who has to pick it up at 3 a.m.
