Die Studie setzt sich kritisch mit der bisherigen Textkritik und Editionsphilologie auseinander und entwickelt anhand der "Parzival"-Handschrift Cgm 19 und der "Tristan"-Handschrift Cgm 51 die These, dass jeder mittelalterliche Überlieferungszeuge seine eigene Wertigkeit besitzt. Baisch bestimmt die Genese, den Status und die Funktion von Textvarianten in der mittelalterlichen volkssprachlichen Überlieferung mittels einer Analyse historischer Gebrauchszusammenhänge neu und führt Edition und Interpretation methodisch zusammen. Die Arbeit stellt einenwichtigen Beitrag zur derzeit geführten Debatte über Prinzipien der modernen Editionsphilologie und den mittelalterlichen Textbegriff dar.
