The Almost Between Us

Some places are impossible to leave behind. Some people are impossible to forget.

Colin Wong has always found it easier to fix things than to talk about them. Give him a broken chair, a faulty engine or something that needs building, and he knows exactly where to start. Feelings, on the other hand, are a different problem.

Then Ruby Hart arrives in Westbridge.

With her copper-red hair, camera always close at hand and a past she hasn't quite left behind, Ruby sees the town differently. While working together on a school documentary about the places that make a person feel at home, Colin finds himself drawn into her world - from the harbour and its weathered boat shed to the quiet corners of town that hold more memories than either of them expected.

But Ruby is still connected to the life she left behind, and the arrival of someone from her past threatens to complicate everything. As friendships shift, opportunities arise and the future begins pulling them in different directions, Colin and Ruby must decide how much they are willing to risk for something neither of them knows how to name.

Between missed chances, unfinished conversations and moments that feel almost like something more, they begin to discover that home isn't always a place. Sometimes, it's a person. Sometimes, it's the courage to stay. And sometimes, the hardest thing to do is let someone go.

The Almost Between Us is a heartfelt young adult contemporary romance about first love, friendship, belonging, finding your direction and the places - and people - that stay with us.
