In 1545, in a remote Carpathian monastery, a tormented monk carves a throne from black oak felled beneath a blood moon. Four centuries later, on September 6, 1939, Lieutenant Ralph Kolton's platoon unearths the abomination from a sealed vault beneath a burning Krakow church.
