When the government unleashes an army of police to stop voters at any cost, Laia has a choice. Will she be strong enough to stand up for her family and the life she dreams of?

Barcelona and Catalunya 2017. At just fourteen, Laia's father is thrown in jail for a human rights protest. Weeks before the independence referendum when police cracked down on voters with extraordinary violence.

Laia's mother is devoted to fighting her father's legal case, and after Laia's best friend betrays her, she feels isolated and at odds with her reality. Persuaded by a classmate, she joins a pro-democracy group and learns more about the corrupt politics of her country. Turning to her great aunt for support, she uncovers a secret and realises how the Spanish civil war touched her family so profoundly.

Two years pass with her father in jail without a trial. Eventually, Catalan politicians, including her father, are given sentences longer than some murderers, leading to human rights organisations calling for the release of political prisoners.  

Barcelona erupts. Laia is rocked to her core as she witnesses just how far the Spanish police will go to keep its grip on Catalunya. A dangerous path opens up to Laia, which if she takes it, everything she cares about will be threatened.
