Schädigt der Handel die Umwelt und sind Handelssanktionen ein wirksames Mittel um Umweltschutzbelange durchzusetzen? Zwei Extrempositionen lassen sich aus diesen Standpunkten herausfiltern: einerseits die Perspektive des Freihandels, die bei einer neoklassischen ökonomischen Theorie ansetzt und den Umweltschutzgedanken weitgehend außer Acht lässt und andererseits die Umweltschutzperspektive, die dem fortschreitenden Wirtschaftswachstum sehr skeptisch gegenüber steht. Im Lichte völkerrechtlicher Normen untersucht die Autorin bereits bestehende Konflikte und zukünftiges Konfliktpotential und zeigt mögliche Koordinationsformen auf.
